Setting up to print signatures on Hurst Smart Plates (InDesign/Imposer Pro)

  1. Open the Chooser and select the Adobe PS Print Driver. Do NOT use LaserWriter 8.
  2. Select the GCT Laser Jet 5000GN printer.
  3. Close the Chooser.
  4. In QuarkXPress, select Print from the File Menu.
  5. Click the "Printer" button at the bottom of the dialog.
  6. Be sure the GCT LaserJet 5000GN printer appears in the pop-up menu at the top of the Adobe PS print dialog box.
  7. From the Pop-up menu, choose "Imaging Options."
  8. Set the EconoMode to "Highest Quality."
  9. Set the Levels of Gray to "Standard."
 
  1. From the Pop-up menu, choose "Resolution Options."
  2. Set the Resolution to "ProRes 1200."
  3. Set the Resolution Enhancement to "Off."
 
  1. From the Pop-up menu, choose "Printer Specific Options."
  2. Set the Media Type to "Rough."
  3. Set the Collate to "Off."
  4. Click Save Settings, then OK.
  5. Close the Adobe PS print dialog box by clicking "Cancel."
  6. Close the QuarkXPress Print Dialog Box by clicking "Cancel."
 
  1. From the QuarkXPress Edit menu, choose Print Styles and click "New" to open the Edit Print Style dialog box.
  2. Give the Print Style a representative name, like "SmartPlate."
  3. Set the Document tab to match the illustration at right.
 
  1. Click the Setup tab and choose the HP LaserJet 5000 Series Printer Description.
  2. Do not worry about the other settings.
  1. Click the Output tab and set the Resolution to 1200 dpi and the Frequency to 106 lpi.
  2. Do not worry about the other settings.
  3. Click OK to close the Edit Print Style dialog box.
 
  1. The Print Styles dialog box once again appears on the screen. Se sure your new style appears in the list.
  2. Click "Save" to save the new Print Style.
 
  1. To use the Print Style during output from QuarkXPress, first choose Print from the File menu.
  2. When the QuarkXPress Print dialog box appears, click the "Printer" button at the bottom of the dialog box and check to make sure that the Adobe PS print dialog box are set according to the instructions above.
  3. Choose the name of your Print Style (in this case, "SmartPlate") from the Print Style popup menu.
  4. Make any required changes to the Document tab.
  5. Click the "Setup" tab and make any required changes.
 
  1. Click the Output tab and make any required changes.
  2. Click "Print" to output the job.
