GRTC 4372: Costing in Graphic Communications
- Prerequisite: GRTC 3353 (recommended)
- Credit: 3 semester hours
Course Description
Principles and techniques of cost estimating for graphics communications productions.
Course Goals
This course provides the student with the opportunity to learn how to determine which materials and manufacturing processes are required to produce jobs of printng and calculate the costs for those materials and processes.
Students completing the course will:
- Be able to calculate paper size and cost
- Be able to use standard, metric, and printers' measurement systems in estimating processes
- Know how to determine the correct amount of materials needed for printing jobs
- Be able to assign costs to printing materials
- Know how to calculate budgeted hourly rates
- Know how to use and develop production standards
- Be able to predict the production time required to produce each operation in the production of a printed job
- Know that a particular job's cost can change depending upon materials, equipment and processes chosen for that job
- Know how to apply mark-up and profit ratios to estimated costs
- Be familiar with applicable terminology
- Be familiar with the role of the computer in estimating procedures
