The College of Technology´s new Digital Media Program was approved by the State of Texas´ Higher Education Coordinating Board for Fall 2009. As we implement this new stand—alone degree plan, several changes will be made to the scheduling of courses as well as to the prerequisites necessary before students can enroll in given classes. COLLABORATIVE PROJECT WITH LONE STAR COLLEGE, KINGWOOD
The University of Houston’s College of Technology’s Graphic Production Control ll students and the Digital Publishing III students at Lonestar College Kingwood have been cooperating in an annual collaborative project since Spring 2008.Kingwood students, and their instructor Ms.Pam Clarke, visit the Graphic Communications lab facilities shortly after each spring semester begins. During their visit, students receive advice on common errors to avoid before submitting their work for reproduction. More >
A new generation in the pressroom
The press lab now has a RYOBI 3302H (A). It was purchased from LSS Digital, a printing supplier in Houston, with student fees charged to students in the Technology Leadership and Supervision program. Through the superb efforts of LSS representative, Bill Powers, in cooperation with Ryobi Group, we were able to procure the brand-new press for less than $80,000! More >
Printing industry needs 60,000 new employees
Fact: the printing industry needs 60,000 new employees every year to replace those who leave the workforce, for whatever reason. Where do replacement workers (new hires) come from? About half come from other printing companies because it is far easier to hire someone who already has the required skills than expend the time and cost of training someone from scratch. More >
