Through the combined efforts of College of Technology Dean William Fitzgibbon, Associate Dean Fred Lewallen, Information and Logistics Technology Chair John Hansen, and Graphic Communications Technology program coordinator, Jerry Waite, the UH Prepress Laboratory is now in sync with 21st century technology. A new Apple X-Serve, coupled with a 2.8TB RAID, serves as the “brain” for 35 cutting edge 20" iMac G5 workstations. Each computer is outfitted with the Adobe Creative Suite, for print production purposes, as well as Macromedia Studio MX, for web publishing. In addition, the lab boasts a new Mitsubishi Silver DigiPlate ECO 1630 Direct-to-Plate System supported by a Harlequin RIP and PC controller station. Through the use of this new equipment, UH Graphic Communications Technology students will learn up-to-date prepress software and job workflow processes. And, they'll do it in a gorgeous and comfortable lab!
